Entry in Bhutan

Bhutan’s only international airport is located in Paro, in western Bhutan.

Visitors can travel to Bhutan via direct flights from Bangladesh (Dhaka), India (Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bodh Gaya, and Bagdogra), Nepal (Kathmandu), Singapore (Changi), and Thailand (Bangkok).

Currently, two airlines operate flights to Bhutan: Drukair and Bhutan Airlines.

Visitors can also enter Bhutan by land through Phuentsholing in the south.

Indian nationals may also enter through other land entry points, including Gelephu, Samdrup Jongkhar and Samtse.

Domestic flights are available to Bumthang in central Bhutan, Gelephu in Sarpang, southern Bhutan, and Yonphula in Trashigang, eastern Bhutan.

However, we strongly recommend booking your flight tickets in advance, as availability is often limited.

Tourist Stay Duration & Fees in Bhutan

Visitors can stay in Bhutan for a maximum of 90 days per visit.

Please note: A Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of USD 100 per person per day applies to all tourists except those from India and Bangladesh. In addition, there is a one-time visa fee of USD 40.

Favourable Time to Visit Bhutan

Tours can be planned throughout the year, though the best times to visit are March to May and September to November.

These months also coincide with several vibrant festivals across Bhutan, adding another layer to the experience.

Winter in Bhutan generally lasts from mid-November to mid-March. During this period, most regions experience dry, sunny weather with clear blue skies. Daytime temperatures can reach around 15°C, while nights often fall below freezing.

The monsoon season typically begins in mid-June, bringing rainfall that usually occurs in the afternoons and evenings.
